Syd Fini lives in Brooklyn with his wife, who is a puppet-maker and painter. He was born in Iran during the eight-year-long Iran-Iraq war and spent most of his time indoors, drawing pictures from his favorite movies and animations. That sense of visual storytelling led him to start his career as a storyboard artist for feature films at the age of eighteen. He then continued directing animations and making graphic novels. He works both digitally and in traditional paper and ink. He draws inspiration from dark and magical realism in literature; his visual style is moody, and the scope of his compositions is cinematic and grand. He plays his Tanbur instrument after his long sessions of drawing.
