Jhumpa Lahiri

Jhumpa Lahiri is the author of five works of fiction: Interpreter of Maladies; The Namesake; Unaccustomed Earth; The Lowland; and her first full-length self-translation, Whereabouts (first published in Italian as Dove mi trovo)....

She is also the author of a work of nonfiction, In Other Words (first published in Italian as In altre parole and translated into English by Ann Goldstein). She has translated two books by Domenico Starnone, Ties and Trick, and recently edited and partly translated The Penguin Book of Italian Short Stories. In 2021 she published her first collection of poems in Italian, Il quaderno di Nerina (Nerina’s Notebook). She has received numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize; the PEN/Hemingway Award; the PEN/Malamud Award; the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award; the Premio Gregor von Rezzori; the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature; a 2014 National Humanities Medal, awarded by President Barack Obama; the Premio Internazionale Viareggio-Versilia, for In altre parole; and the John Florio Prize.
