The second annual reading and discussion on November 1 of this year brought together writers from across Europe: Germany, Spain, Italy, France, and the Czech Republic. This year’s event featured Phillipe Claudel, Quim Monzo, Iva Pekarkova, Matthias Politycki, and Domenico Starnone, followed by a roundtable discussion led by Esther Allen.
In December of 2004, Tiziana Rinaldi Castro, Petra Hůlová, Camille Laurens, Antonio Muñoz Molina, and John von Düffel read their work, with a discussion moderated by Phillip Boehm.
Both events, the 2005 “Roots or Wings? Writing Within and Without Borders” and 2004’s “New Literature from Europe,” were made possible by the Goethe-Institut New York, Instituto Cervantes, Istituto Italiano di Cultura, The Cultural Services of the French Embassy, and the Czech Center of New York, in collaboration with Institut Ramon Llull.
