Valerie Miles

Valerie Miles is an American writer, translator, and editor living in Barcelona, Spain. She was the editorial director of Emecé Editores and associate director of Alfaguara, and for several years oversaw the New York Review Books classics collection in Spanish. In 2003 she founded Granta magazine’s Spanish language project together with Aurelio Major and saw the publication of their highly celebrated Best of Young Spanish Language Novelists issue in 2010. Her articles and stories have appeared in The New York TimesEl PaísLa Vanguardia, and in magazines such as the Paris Review, Harper’s and Granta, among others. She curated the first exhibition dedicated to Roberto Bolaño’s archives for the CCCB in Barcelona, and is a professor in the postgraduate program of Literary Translation in the Pompeu i Fabra University. Her first book, A Thousand Forests in One Acorn, was published by Open Letter in 2014. She is working on her second.
