After living in Thailand for several years, Susan F. Kepner earned her PhD at the University of California, Berkeley, where she continued to translate, write about, and teach modern Thai literature for many years. She is the author of six books, including translations of two prize-winning Thai novels. Her most recent book is A Civilized Woman: M.L. . Dr. Kepner retired from UC Berkeley in 2009 and is currently writing a memoir entitled How All Things are True: Seven Years in Southeast Asia. She lives in Berkeley, California.
