Peter Montalbano

Peter Montalbano, translator of Thai author Uthis Haemamool’s SEA Write award-winning novel the Brotherhood of Kaeng Khoi (original: Lap Lae, Kaeng Khoi) and numerous other books, received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in comparative literature (focusing on German, English, French, and Latin) from the University of California, Berkeley. After first learning Thai during two years in the 1960s as one of the early US Peace Corps volunteers, he worked for decades as a musician, teacher, and computer programmer before returning to Thailand for intensive Thai study in the early twenty-first century and finding a thoroughly enjoyable home in the translation world.
