Margaret Mitsutani was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1953, and has lived in Japan since the mid-1970s. In addition to Yoko Tawada, she has translated Kenzaburo Oe, Kyoko Hayashi, and Mitsuyo Kakuta. She has also been associated with the haiku little magazine Ran since 2011.
