Iksaka Banu was born in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, in 1964. He studied design at the Faculty of Art and Design at Bandung Institute of Technology and worked in advertising in Jakarta until 2006. Iksaka’s writing career began as a child, when his writing was published in the children’s columns of the newspapers Harian Angkatan Bersenjata and Kompas and in Kawanku magazine. After years during which his advertising career impeded his writing, he published a short in Matra magazine in 2000 and has since taken up writing again, publishing in the magazines Femina and Horison and in Koran Tempo. Two of his short stories have been chosen for the Twenty Best Indonesian Short Stories by the Pena Kencana Prize in 2008 and 2009.
