Annie Tucker is a writer and translator from Indonesian.
Her translation of Eka Kurniawan’s Beauty is a Wound (New Directions, 2015) was a New York Times notable book of 2015, longlisted for 2016 Best Translated Book Award, won the 2016 World Reader’s Award, and was dubbed one of the top ten translated books of the decade by LitHub. She has won numerous grants and awards, including a PEN/Heim Translation grant and a Fulbright/Hays. She has thus far brought the novels, short fiction, poetry, and essays of over a dozen Indonesian writers to English language readers. She has worked with respected publishers and publications, including Verso, Comma Press, Freemans, the Margins, the Baffler, Asymptote, and the New York Times Magazine, and has served as judge for PEN and ALTA translation prizes. She holds a PhD in culture and performance from UCLA and lives in Los Angeles.
