Through our free digital magazine, literary events, and education program, Words Without Borders uplifts the voices of 200+ international writers each year, connecting them with hundreds of thousands of readers worldwide. Our paid fellowships and grants support the next generation of translation professionals, contributing to the growth and diversity of our field. In everything we do, we advocate for literary translation to be recognized as what it is: a vital and connective art form for an increasingly polarized world.

You may not be aware that donations from readers like you make up more than a third of WWB’s annual budget. Each year, we rely on our community to help us publish and promote innovative writing in translation that can’t be found elsewhere, train hundreds of educators to bring global literature to their students, and provide fair compensation to writers, translators, editors, and support staff. In other words, we can’t do this work without you.

If you can, please support WWB today. You can donate securely using the form below or mail a check made out to Words Without Borders to the WWB office:

Honoring Karen M. Phillips

In January, our outstanding executive director, Karen M. Phillips, announced that she would be transitioning out of her role this summer, making space for a new leader at Words Without Borders. When Karen joined WWB, it was a digital literary magazine with a staff of three and big ambitions. Today, it is a multi-program literary arts organization with a staff of nine and freelancers around the globe.

The WWB Board seeks to recognize Karen’s focus on organizational sustainability by growing our reserve fund, the WWB Endurance Fund, to $400,000. If you can, please help us celebrate Karen’s legacy with a gift to the Endurance Fund by June 30. Any amount you can contribute, big or small, will provide support and stability for WWB in years to come.
