A key figure of the post-70s Chinese poets, Yu Xiang ( 宇向) was born in 1970 and began writing poetry in 2000. She has been actively involved in contemporary art, underground music, and avant-garde literature. Chosen as one of the top ten Chinese women poets in 2004, she has received the Rougang Poetry Prize (2002) and the Yulong Poetry Prize (2006).
Enigmatic and sensual, Yu Xiang’s writings are few but immensely popular. Her work includes a chapbook, Sorceress (2002), a volume of poetry, Exhale (2006), and a bilingual collection, I Can Almost See the Clouds of Dust, forthcoming from Zephyr Press in 2012 as part of the Jintian Series. She has also, as a visual artist, exhibited oil paintings at various venues. She currently lives in Ji’nan, the capital city of Shandong Province.
