Yeshe Dorje Thongchi

Yeshe Dorje Thongchi, a member of the Serdukpen tribe of Arunachal Pradesh, was born in 1952 and is one of the few Arunachali writers of his generation who continues to write in Assamese....

For his contribution to Assamese literature, he has received the Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian honors offered by the Government of India Sahitya, as well as the Akademi Award, the Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha Award from Asom Sahitya Sabha, and numerous others. His novels, short stories, and essays are widely read and taught in Assam. His fiction brings to life the customs and rituals of Arunachal’s many tribes and depicts their complex interactions with modernity. A retired civil servant, he lives in Itanagar, Arunachal.
