Virginie Hoifua Te Matagi Tafilagi-Takala

Virginie Hoifua Te Matagi Tafilagi (b. 1965) is a teacher, essayist and poet from Ouvea (Uvea, Wallis) who is passionate in her defence of the Indigenous language faka’uvea. She has published work in that language and in French. Her long poem “Homage to Hōkūle’a” is a celebration of Pacific peoples and their long traditions of transoceanic voyaging.
