Ulrike Ulrichwas born in 1968 in Düsseldorf, and currently lives as a freelance writer in Zürich. In Vienna she worked at the poetry school. In Rome she was a guest at the Istituto Svizzero. The Lilly-Ronchetti-Preis enabled a sojourn in Paris. She was invited to New York for the Festival Neue Literatur.
In all of those places and in Ticino she wrote her recently published story collection Draussen um diese Zeit ("Outside at this Time") for which she received stipendia from the canton of Zürich and the Pro Helvetia foundation. She is the editor of 60 Jahre Menschenrechte – 30 literarische Texte ("60 Years of Human Rights: 30 Literary Texts") and has been a member of the Zürich literature group Index since 2003. Her writing has received many awards, including the Walter Serner Prize und prizes from the city of Zürich for her novels fern bleiben ("Staying Gone") and Hinter den Augen ("Behind the Eyes"). Her books are published by Luftschacht Verlag in Vienna.
