Srecko Kosovel

Srecko Kosovel was born in 1904 and died in 1926 at the age of twenty-two. Though almost unpublished before his death, the opus he wrote during his short lifetime (more than a thousand poems and hundreds of pages of prose and letters) made him one of Slovenia's great canonized poets. A prodigy, he wrote in the three principal poetic idioms of the twentieth century: impressionist, expressionist and constructivist. The poem published here comes from the collection Integrali which was not published in Slovenia until the 1960s when it caused a literary sensation.
