Polona Glavan was born in 1974 and graduated from Literature and English at the University of Ljubljana. She began publishing her stories in early 1990's. Her first novel, Noc v Evropi (A Night in Europe, from which "The Fourth Take" is taken), was published in 2001 and shortlisted for the Kresnik prize for the best Slovenian novel.
Polona Glavan has been active as a translator for over a decade. She translates from English, Serbian and Croatian as well as from Slovenian into English. Her major translations into her native language include Hannah Arendt's Origins of Totalitarianism, Bernard Mac Laverty's Grace Notes, Andrea Levy's Small Island and Flannery O'Connor's A Good Man is Hard to Find and Other Stories. She also participated as an editor and translator in the anthology of modern British fiction. She lives in Ljubljana with her family.
