He has also published catalog essays and art monographs on numerous contemporary painters, including Eric Aho, Mitchell Johnson, and Deborah Rosenthal. The recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship as well as the Rome Prize (Prix de Rome) from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, he teaches in the MFA program in creative writing at the University of Minnesota.
