Pedro Rosa Mendes's dispatches from Zaire, Angola, Rwanda, and Afghanistan have earned him the Feature of the Year Prize in Portugal for reportage as well as the Lisbon Press Club's Bordalo Prize. His publications include the 1999 collaboration with Portuguese photographer Alfredo Cunha, Bay of Tigers, and his 2002 collaboration with French illustrator Alain Corbel, Ilhas de Fogo. In 2003, Pedro Rosa Mendes also published the novel Atlântico, with pictures by the prominent photographer João Francisco Vilhena.
