Parveen Shakir

Parveen Shakir (1952–1994) was an Urdu poet, educator, columnist, and civil servant. She is famous for her use of a bold feminine voice in a literary scene dominated by the masculine, and for the exploration of love, beauty, feminism, and social issues in her work....

Her work was and remains widely celebrated; her first book, Khushbu, won the Adamjee Literary Award in 1978, and she received the Pride of Performance Award in 1991 from the Pakistani government. She died at the age of forty-two in a car accident on her way to work.
