Moa Backe Åstot

Moa Backe Åstot, born in 1998, is a writer of fiction from Malmberget, Sweden. She’s a reindeer-owning Sámi and is currently living in Jokkmokk. Her debut novel, Himlabrand, was published in January of 2021. Since then she’s been nominated for prestigious awards such as the August Prize, in 2021, as well as the Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize, in 2022. Himlabrand has also earned her the Slangbellan Award for the Year’s Best Debut in Literature for Children and Young Adults and the SV’s Writer’s Prize.
