Miriam McIlfatrick is a translator and lecturer from Northern Ireland who has lived in Estonia since 1991. Her scholarly interests include the poetics of translation, oral poetics, and cognitive stylistics. She translates contemporary Estonian poetry primarily for performance at festivals worldwide, and her translations have also appeared in a number of journals and anthologies.
Her most recent publications are Kätlin Kaldmaa’s collection One is None (A Midsummer Night’s Press, 2014) and poems by Juhan Viiding and Triin Soomets in the anthology Six Estonian Poets (Arc Publications, 2015). With the Estonian poet Doris Kareva she coedited the bilingual anthology Windship with Oars of Light (Huma, 2001) and Rogha Danta, a collection of seven Irish women poets translated into Estonian (verb, 2005). Her own poetry has also appeared in Estonian literary journals in translation by Doris Kareva.
