Mircea Horia Simionescu (b. 1928) is a Romanian novelist, journalist, and essayist associated with the school of Târgovişte. Director of the Romanian Opera until 1974, he is the winner of the Romanian Writers’ Union’s Lifetime Achievement Award (1998) as well as numerous other honors, and his work is said to have brought Romanian letters to the brink of postmodernism.
