Mely Kiyak, the daughter of Kurdish Turks, was born in Germany in 1976. She is a journalist and columnist, and her work appears in various newspapers, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the Frankfurter Rundschau, and Die Zeit, among them.
