Matthias Picard was born in Reims, the capital of Champagne, and graduated from the School of Fine Art in Strasbourg. He was a member of a collective called Troglodyte and worked at the fanzine Escquillettes. Sections of his graphic novel, Jeanine, about his neighbor in Strasbourg, appeared in the magazine Lapin.
