Mária Chilf studied painting at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts under the direction of Dóra Maurer and further completed her training at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin (1997-1998) under the direction of Katharina Sieverding. She has regularly participated in international exhibitions since the early 1990s.
A sensible yet strong individual style characterizes her work, which include installations, video, graphics, and aquarelles. This work explores individual destiny and Eastern European experience. Since the early 2000s, existential questions, the psyche, the subject and its representation have been the focus of works that mix the real and the surreal.
