Luis Rafael Hernández's twelve books include Los hijos de Adán (short stories, 2002), Colómbico (poetry, 2003), Eliseo Diego: donde la demasiada luz (essay, 2004), Mulato (youth novel, 2006, winner of the Premio Nacional "La Rosa Blanca" for the best book published in Cuba for children and young people in 2007), El dueño de los caballitos (short stories, 2007) and Cartas al hijo (poetry, 2008). He was the editor of the literary journal Jácara from 1995 to 2005. He received his Ph.D. in Spanish American Literature and Language from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and is an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Letters at the University of Habana.
