Luigi Pirandello (1867-1936) is a premier figure of world literature and the greatest Italian modernist writer. Winner of the Nobel Prize in literature in 1934 for his strikingly original plays, including Six Characters in Search of an Author, he is also the author of several novels and more than three hundred short stories, including "The Jar."
