Born in the Netherlands, Liedewy Hawke emigrated to Canada in 1963. She has won both the Canada Council Translation Prize and the John Glassco Translation Prize, and has been nominated three times for the Governor General's Literary Award for Translation, most recently in 2008 for The Postman's Round, her translation of Denis Thériault's Le facteur émotif. Liedewy translates Dutch as well as French (Canadian) literature. Her most recent translation is The Gift from Berlin (Lucette ter Borg's Het cadeau uit Berlijn). She lives in Toronto.
