Laila Stien is one of Norway’s most distinguished short-story writers.
She has published the collections Veranda med sol (Veranda with Sun, 2003), Hjem til jul (Home for Christmas, 2010), and Over elva (Over the River, 2015) and a number of translations from Norwegian and Swedish into Sami, and has received the Språklig Samling prize and the Kritikerpris for children’s literature, among other awards. Her writing in English translation includes the novel Antiphony (Vekselsang), published by Nordic Studies Press in 2006, and short stories in Fiction and McSweeney’s. She lives in Finnmark, in the northernmost part of Norway.
