Jaroslava Blažková (b. 1933) is an author and journalist, the winner of numerous literary awards for her contributions to children’s literature. A member of Generation 56, a group of authors that started writing during the period of the thaw in Czechoslovakia, after the 1968 Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia she emigrated to Canada with her husband; subsequently her name disappeared from Slovak literature. During the 1990s she made a comeback, first with reissues of her older books, followed by publications of her current writing. Her works have been translated into German, Hungarian, Polish, English and a number of other languages. Her book Happyendy [2005; Happy Endings] was shortlisted for the Anasoft Litera award for fiction in 2006.
