Intizaar Hussain was widely recognized as the preeminent author of Urdu fiction. Born in Dibai, Bulandshahr, India, Hussain migrated to Pakistan in 1947. He was a prolific writer, producing short stories and novels in Urdu, and newspaper columns in English. He was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 2013 and awarded France’s highly prestigious Ordre des Arts et des Lettres a year later. Hussain died in February of 2016.
