Inci Aral is the former director of Turkish PEN.
Her books include the short-story collections Ağda Zamanı (Time for the Epilating Wax, 1980); Kıran Resimleri (Murrain Pictures,1983); Uykusuzlar (Insomniacs, 1984); Sevginin Eşsiz Kışı (Love’s Unique Winter, 1986); and Gölgede Kırk Derece (Forty Degrees In the Shade, 2001), and the novels Ölü Erkek Kuşlar (Dead Male Birds, 1992); Yeni Yalan Zamanlar (New Untrue Times, 1994); Hiçbir Aşk Hiçbir Ölüm (No Love, No Death, 1997); İçimden Kuşlar Göçüyor (Birds Are Migrating Inside Men, 1998); Mor (Purple, 2003); Taş ve Ten (Stone and Flesh, 2005); Sadakat (Fealty, 2010); and Şarkını Söylediğin Zaman (When You Sing Your Song, 2011). She has been awarded the Akademi Kitabevi First Book Award, the Nevzat Üstün Award, the Yunus Nadi Short Story Award, the Yunus Nadi Novel Award, and the Orhan Kemal Novel Award, and her work has been translated into Greek, Bulgarian, and French.
