Hitomi Yoshio is a Japanese literary translator. Her translations include This Is Amiko, Do You Copy? by Natsuko Imamura (Pushkin Press, 2023) and three forthcoming co-translated works by Mieko Kawakami. She is a regular contributor to Monkey literary magazine, where she translates works by modern Japanese authors such as Ichiyo Higuchi and Midori Osaki. Read More She received her PhD in Japanese literature from Columbia University and is professor of global Japanese studies at Waseda University. During 2022–2024, she resided in the Boston area as a visiting scholar at Harvard University. She led the Japanese-English workshop attended by the writer Kaori Fujino at the British Centre for Literary Translation’s Summer School in 2023. The workshop members subsequently published their translation of Fujino’s “P-Pod” under the name The Tamago Collective.
