Emrah Serbes was born in 1981 in Yalova, Turkey. After dropping out of a series of educational institutions, Serbes finally graduated from the theater department of Ankara University. He has conducted interviews and written theater reviews for various newspapers.
His published books include the novels Her Temas İz Bırakır (Every Touch Leaves a Trace, İletişim, 2007) and Son Hafriyat (The Last Excavation, İletişim, 2008), both noir mysteries set in Ankara, and the basis for a hit TV show and two feature-length films featuring policeman Behzat Ç. Stories from his collection Erken Kaybedenler (Predestined Losers, İletişim, 2009) have been adapted for the stage. Serbes made headlines in 2014 and 2015 when he was sued by then-Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and son Bilal for defamation. He was acquitted.
