Elvira Vigna

Elvira Vigna (1947–2017) was a Brazilian writer, illustrator, and journalist. Born in Rio de Janeiro and raised in São Paulo, she graduated with a degree in literature from the University of Nancy in 1974 and earned a master’s degree at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She wrote for newspapers, including O Globo and O Estado de S....

Paulo, and edited the literary magazine A Pomba. She wrote and illustrated children’s books at the beginning of her career, moving to novels later. Vigna’s works earned her literary prizes, including the Jabuti, the Machado de Assis, and the Oceanos. Vigna died of cancer in São Paulo in July 2017 at the age of sixty-nine.
