Elke Schmitter, born in 1961 in Krefeld, Germany, studied philosophy in Munich. Her novel Mrs. Sartoris has been translated into thirteen languages. In 2002 she published her second novel, Misdemeanors. She writes for Der Spiegel and lives in Berlin with her family.
