Edward Dennis Goy (1926-2000) was a lecturer in Slavonic Studies at Cambridge University and taught mainly Serbian and Croatian Literature until his retirement in 1990. The range of the books he translated from Serbo-Croat is most impressive, covering modern, Renaissance and Baroque poetry, folk literature and contemporary fiction. In 1988 the Serbian P.E.N.
Center awarded him a prize for his translations and work on literature. With his wife, Jasna Levinger, he translated Mesa Selimovic's novel The Fortress (Northwestern University Press, 1999) and Miroslav Krleza's Banquet in Blitva (Northwestern University Press, forthcoming 2004), and was translating Milos Crnjanski's Novel about London at the time of his death.
