Born in Basra, Iraq, in 1963, Duna Ghali has lived in Denmark since 1992. In addition to When the Scent Awakens, she has published two collections of short stories, a novel, and translations of Hans Christian Andersen's tales into Arabic. She works in the Department of Orientalia and Judaica at the Royal Library, Copenhagen.
