Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida was born in Luanda, Angola, in 1982. A graduate of the New University of Lisbon and of the University of Lisbon, she was one of the recipients of serrote’s essay prize (Instituto Moreira Salles, Brazil), in 2013. Her writing has appeared in Afrolis, Buala, Common Knowledge, Forma de Vida, Ler, Observador, serrote, and XXI. Esse Cabelo (Teorema/ Leya, 2015), winner of the Novos Prize for Literature in 2016, is her first book. In early 2016, she was a finalist of the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative. She writes a monthly column for the Brazilian magazine Pessoa.
