Deanna Cachoian-Schanz is a translator of Armenian literature and nonfiction. Originally from New York, she studied literature and creative nonfiction at Sarah Lawrence College, and has since called Armenia, Italy, and Turkey home. Her literary interests are in experimental postmodern work and contemporary Armenian feminist literature.
She is the translator of Shushan Avagyan’s Book-Untitled, about which she also wrote her MA thesis at the University of Venice, Ca’ Foscari. Currently based in Istanbul, Deanna is a MA student in Cultural Studies at Sabancı University. Her critical interests span literary, gender and queer theory, as well as the aesthetics of genre and narrative transmission. She is a teacher and an avid postcard writer.
