One of Thailand’s most celebrated contemporary authors, Chart Korbjitti rose to fame in the 1980s, writing about working-class life amid social and economic changes. A number of his most beloved works, such as the 1981 novel Khamphiphaksa (The Judgment) and the 1988 novel Phan Ma Ba (Mad Dogs & Co.), have been translated into English and French. Named a national artist in 2004, Korbjitti is also a two-time winner of the S.E.A. Write Award. Most recently, he published a “novel” based on his Facebook exchanges. He is originally from Samut Sakhon, a province just outside of Bangkok, and now lives in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima.
