Charles De Wolf is a professor at Keio University in Japan, where he has lived most of his life, having otherwise resided in the United States, Europe, and Korea. A linguist by academic training, he has turned in recent years to classical, early modern, and contemporary Japanese literature. His published translations include Tales of Days Gone By, excerpts from Konjaku Monogatari, a twelfth-century collection of folktales (ALIS, Tokyo, April, 2005), and Mandarins, a collection of stories by Akutagawa Ryunosuke (Archipelago Books, New York, May, 2007).
