Bedřich Václavek

Bedřich Václavek (1897–1943) was a prominent member of the Czech avant-garde group Devětsil, with a strong interest in Dadaist movements. In 1924, he was editor of the first issues  of the Brno-based Pásmo with Artuš Černík and František Halas. With Halas, as well as Zdeněk Rossmann, he put out the 1927 anthology of the international avant-garde magazine fronta. He also served as editor at another Brno-based cultural-political publication, Index, that ran from 1929–39 with very interesting typographic design by Rossmann, who had studied briefly at the Bauhaus in Germany.
