Angela Dutra de Menezes is a writer and journalist. She was born in Rio de Janeiro, where she still lives. She worked at the newspaper O Globo and VEJA magazine before retiring to concentrate on fiction. She has published seven books, several of which have been nominated for Brazil’s prestigious Jabuti Prize: Mil anos menos cinqüenta [A Thousand Years Less Fifty], Santa Sofia [Saint Sofia], O avesso do retrato [The Reverse of the Portrait], O português que nos pariu [The Portuguese that Begot Us], O livro do apocalipse segundo uma testemunha [The Book of Apocalypse According to a Witness], Todos os dias da semana [Every Day of the Week], and A tecelã de sonhos [The Dream Weaver], which was shortlisted for the 2009 Záffiro&Bourbon Literary Prize.
