Andry Andraina

Andry Andraina (1922–2006) was an extremely well-known author in Madagascar. He was a member of the national writers’ association and an active member of the Académie Malgache. His first novel, I Vola, appeared when he was fifty-five. His second novel, Mitaraina ny tany, was nominated for an award from the Ministry of Culture. He wrote a number of plays and radio shows. Andraina is considered the father of the realistic novel genre in Madagascar, and his works are now a part of the school curriculum.
