Alberto Martins

Born in Santos, São Paulo, Brazil, in 1958, Alberto Martins graduated with a degree in Brazilian, Portuguese, and English literature from the University of São Paulo in 1981. That year he started learning printmaking at the School of Arts and Media of the University of São Paulo, and in 1985, with a Fulbright scholarship, he attended the Pratt Graphics Center, in New York. Since then he has exhibited regularly his prints (and less frequently, his sculptures) in Brazil and abroad. One of the authors invited to the poetry meeting at FLIP 2005 (the Literary Festival of Parati, Brazil), Alberto Martins has published Poemas (Editora Duas Cidades, Coleço Cãlaro Enigma, 1990); Goeldi: história de horizonte (MAC-USP/Paulinas, 1995), which received the Jabuti Award; A floresta e o estrangeiro (Companhia das Letrinhas, 2000); Cais (Editora 34, 2002); Café-com-leite & feijo-com-arroz (Companhia das Letrinhas, 2004); and A história dos ossos (Editora 34, 2005), which received the second prize in the Portugal Telecom Award of 2006.
