Alain Blottière was born in 1954 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. His first novel Saad (excerpted in our January 2016 issue Captivity) was published in 1980 to great critical acclaim and won the prestigious Prix Littéraire de la Vocation for young writers.
His subsequent work has been recognized with the Prix Vlaery Larbaud and two prizes from the Académie Française. His eight novel, Comment Baptiste est mort, recounts the debriefing of a young French hostage freed by his jihadist captors and will be published in April 2016 by Gallimard. Passionate about Egypt and Egyptian culture, Blottière has also written numerous essays about that country, including an book of antique photographs, translated into English as Vintage Egypt: Cruising the Nile in the Golden Age of Travel (Flammarion 2009). He lives between France and Egypt.
