Laurie Thompson was born in York, England, and lived in northern Sweden for a few years. He used to teach Swedish language and literature in the University of Wales, and was editor of Swedish Book Review from 1983 to 2002. He has translated some forty books from Swedish into English, and lives in rural west Wales with several cats and a Swedish wife.
