Throughout his career, Alessandro has been closely involved with various non-profit organizations, which has given him valuable insights into strategic planning and the efficient allocation of resources.
Since 2006, he has served as the Secretary of the Board of Trustees for The Santa Maddalena Foundation and has been actively involved in running their writers’ retreat in Florence, Italy, since 2000. Additionally, Alessandro resided in Damascus, Syria, where he collaborated with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) on social services for Palestinian refugees. During his time in Damascus, Alessandro co-founded and led Offline:Media, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting work by media professionals from conflict-affected regions. Moreover, he has been a member of the Family Council of the Flora Family Foundation since 2006 and a fellow of the Institute for Philanthropy. Alessandro’s commitment to the non-profit sector is further exemplified by his service on the Board of Slow Food USA from 2016 to 2023 and his current role as a member of the Board of Advisors for Amigos de las Americas, Friends of Havana, and most recently as Secretary of the Board of Words Without Borders. Alessandro holds a Master of Arts degree in International Affairs and Non-Profit Management with a focus on Media and Culture from The New School University in New York and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Anthropology from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. He is fluent in Italian, English, French, Spanish, and Dutch and has a passion for photography.
