Words Without Borders seeks applicants for its digital humanities fellowship. The WWB Digital Humanities Fellowship Program is designed to provide training for individuals looking to build a career around the publication and promotion of international literature. The digital humanities fellow will primarily support the Digital Director in furthering the organization’s multimedia initiatives and completing the migration of the magazine archives to its new website.
This is a unique opportunity for an early-career professional to be mentored by an experienced editor and digital director while also making a lasting contribution to an international literary and educational organization.
Responsibilities
- Migrating the magazine’s archive to its new website
- Working to create audio, and possibly video, for wordswithoutborders.org, including recorded readings, interviews, and more
- Potential to assist in the production, planning, and execution of digital events and/or assets related
- Editing and formatting short videos for promotional and fundraising purposes
- Researching digital best practices to support Digital Director, as necessary
- Meeting weekly with Digital Director to assess progress and ensure projects delivered on time
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, responsible, and able to work effectively both independently supervision and as part of a team. They will also be skilled at written and verbal communications and have knowledge of the international literary landscape.
- Bachelor’s degree; master’s degree a plus but not required
- Demonstrated interest in international literature, and preferably global education as well
- Experience with multimedia content production (including slideshows, podcasts, video, and/or creating GIFS)
- Experience working with website content management systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skill.
- Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and initiative
- Proficient with Microsoft Office or other word-processing programs
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on a small, dynamic team
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Fluent in English with knowledge of one or more foreign languages
The digital fellow will work remotely and commit to working twenty (20) hours per week for nine months, beginning in September. Fellows may be based anywhere and may be citizens of any nation, but must be available to work between the hours of 10 am and 4:30 pm ET.
The digital humanities fellow position pays $18 per hour.
